IF ART CAN CHANGE THE WORLD
Sixty-six percent of world population will live in cities by 2050. With such unprecedented pace of urban growth, achieving the sustainable development of urban areas has become a crucial challenge of the 21st century. Only in 2017, the need for new urban politics has taken more than 75 percent of world countries to start engaging in coordinated urban plannings at both, national and local level.
As the global economy winks at collaborative solutions, the urban administrators increasingly show interest in the parallel institutions born after the Occupy Movement. These are communities that reinvented themselves based on equalitarian common sharing practices, proving their sustainability during the economic crisis. In Europe, the city of Naples has been first to include such a brainchild of civic activism into a full judicial frame. Based on the pilot experience of radical democracy by a "community of artists and cultural workers”, the city has recognized culture as a “commonly owned good”, granting full legal recognition to eight commonly owned spaces. We will go back to the community that first led to this change and deepen reasons and feelings of the people behind it, to better understand the little humanizing revolution that lays behind Naples' claimed rebirth.
L'ala spezzata di Partenope [Parthenope's Broken Wing]
From natural wonder to environmental disaster, passing through the Italsider's industrial dream: today the district of Bagnoli, in the Metropolitan City of Naples, still does not know its future, and is terrain of a fierce clash between the central government of Matteo Renzi and the municipal council of the mayor Luigi De Magistris.
